I thought about this piece for a long time before I attempted to create it. I knew it would be very labor intensive and require a lot of drawing. There are almost a thousand tiny seed people illustrated in this piece. If you look closely enough, you may find a few surprises such as deceased celebrities and even a president or two? There are a few other surprises as well, but who am i to give them away? Keep looking and see what you can find?
I came up with this idea one summer when I used to frequently drive by a large field of sunflowers and thought it would be fun to illustrate them. After observing an individual flower more closely, I was amazed to see how the hundreds of seeds looked like a large crowd of people flowing together in a circular pattern. It was almost as if they all swirled around a central point, like a swarm of bees around their Queen. From there, I decided to create my own civilization of sunflower people and have them all gathered around their own King and Queen.
